Hey guys!
If you’re reading this, that means you’re checking out my brand-spanking new blog, so thank you! If you’re only checking it out because you’re my friend and feel obligated, I’m still grateful!
I figured the best way to start would be by introducing myself. I’m a former English teacher with a love for Harry Potter, Friends, Shakespeare, and writing. I’m a sucker for puns. I have an adorable dog named Prue. I absolutely love tacos. And doughnuts. And pizza. Ok, let’s be real - I just love food.
This is starting to sound a lot like my BumbleBFF profile (more on that later), so I think I need to rein it in. To put it plainly, I’m a Canadian living in Seattle with some (ok a lot of) extra time on my hands. Enter ajennyforyourthoughts.com
So how did I get here?
If we’re talking about here in terms of Seattle, in February 2018, my husband was given a fantastic career opportunity. We’d been living in the city in which we grew up, but we were ready for a change, so we said yes, packed our bags, and headed to Seattle (just kidding, I had to stay and finish the school year and sell the house and THEN I packed my bags and left). Now he’s working for a great company, doing work he loves, and I’m just here eating a lot of food, given that I don’t have my own work visa (YET).
Which leads me to my next “how did I get here” - the blog. When we decided to leave our home of so many years behind, I decided to leave my career behind as well. Don’t get me wrong - I love teaching. I was passionate about most of the material I was teaching and I really enjoyed interacting with my students. I actually miss being in the classroom. This move, however, has given me an opportunity to change lanes and pursue another career in the English field - writing and editing. Now I know what you’re thinking… “you left teaching to begin blogging?!” Not quite. This blog is meant to be a creative outlet for me and a chance for me to write on my own, while I work on my career transition.
You might have noticed I’ve mentioned food a few times. This brings me to my next reason for starting a blog. I mean I could just be journaling as an outlet, but the food in Seattle is too good not to document. Seriously, I just want to eat everything. Since moving here 6ish months ago, I’ve already had a number of people ask me for Seattle recommendations and I’m always more than happy to oblige. I even have a categorized Google Doc that I’ve shared a few times. But what if I could document all my recs in detail, in one place? (I haven’t figured out how to insert a lightbulb emoji here yet, give me time).
So here we are. I plan to document the great things Seattle has to offer, along with any other life, style, or travel tidbits that I gather along the way. I’m excited to share my little corner of the internet with you. And don’t worry - without a work visa, I’m not allowed to make any money. That means I can promise you I won’t be trying to sell you any skinny tea ;)
** Between the time I wrote this post and the time I launched my blog, we said goodbye to our beloved Prue. It would have been easy to simply remove the line about her, but it just didn’t feel right.**
